We joined members of the Naitutum Lekurruki Women’s CBO in commemorating International Women’s Day 2026, standing in solidarity with Indigenous Women and celebrating their vital role in sustaining communities, culture, and Indigenous Heritage.
The gathering was marked by a strong show of community unity, with men also participating in the celebration to express their solidarity and support for women’s empowerment. Local administration officials and representatives from the Community Land Management Committee were also present, reinforcing the importance of collaborative efforts in advancing the rights and well-being of Indigenous Women.
During the event, MIKIA Kenya shared findings from a baseline survey conducted last year, which explored the economic and social realities of Lekurruki Indigenous Women. The assessment provides an important foundation for strengthening Indigenous-led initiatives that support sustainable livelihoods, community resilience, and the preservation of Indigenous Knowledge.
In the spirit of the International Women’s Day 2026 theme — Rights, Justice, Action: “Give to Gain” — MIKIA Kenya reaffirms its commitment to working alongside Indigenous Women, community leadership, and like-minded partners to promote dignity, equity, and opportunity, as well as advocating for the removal of structural barriers that limit equal justice and participation for Indigenous Women and Girls.
By empowering Indigenous Women, we strengthen families, communities, and the future of Indigenous Peoples.
